Two Canadian nationals and their four Filipino companions who were abducted in Kiblawan, Davao del Sur Wednesday morning have been released by a bandit group.
Chief Superintendent Andres Caro, Davao regional police director, identified the Canadians as Andrei Argamomob and Beth Triesen, surveyors of the Sagittarius Mining Corp.
The Canadians were on a vehicle with the Filipinos identified as Madong Toro, Johnny Mapit, Ardaneto Blanco and Atondio Tanedo, when gunmen abducted them around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Caro said the victims were abducted by a local bandit group called “Blaan.”
The police official said the kidnappers released the six in Barangay Tacub in Kiblawan town around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. The bandits, however, refused to return the Canadians’ surveying equipment.
The bandit group was reportedly asking money from the Canadians in exchange for their equipment.
